1. Choose your specialty. Easier said than done. But here are resources that will help:

StudSearch.org - a site with volunteer students from different institutions and specialties. You pick students by specialty and ask them questions in direct messages. You get first-hand accounts of teaching quality, the difference between specialties, prospects after graduation, dormitory conditions and much more.
vstup.edbo.gov.ua - the official site with the results of previous admission campaigns. Look at the cut-off and average scores. Try to get in where the smartest students study. That is your future environment, and it is what will push you to grow.
The School - video interviews with students. You can hear the answers to the most common questions about specialties and universities.

2. Choose your university. Find your Hogwarts. Here is what can help:

vstup.edbo.gov.ua - pick the university with the highest cut-off scores for your specialty.
Abitly.org - like the official EDBO, it lets you look at cut-off scores and statistics from previous years, but it is far more convenient, faster and more capable. For example, universities and competitive offers are sorted by how good they are, not alphabetically. You can bookmark them, search with different filters and sort the catalogue however you like. Like an online shop, but for choosing higher education.
UniverCheck - like a travel show, but for universities. Great reviews of the most popular universities in Ukraine, and reviews of specialties.

Visit the universities’ websites and look at the opportunities they offer.

Find student Telegram and Instagram channels. Look at what student life is like there, which student organisations exist and what interesting things they do. See what is going on and whether it matches your vibe.

It is a great sign when your university has a lot of people who want to change the world for the better. If student activism helps spread the word about student projects, it will be easy and quick for you to launch a startup or a pet project of your own.

3. Go to open days (online at least).

Seeing where you will live and study for the next 4–6 years is definitely worth it. And it is another chance to talk to students and lecturers.

4. Use this great checklist from CEDOS.

And remember!

Yes, applying is a serious and difficult business, but remember that you are not alone. Do not be afraid to ask questions or ask for help and advice. Most students and lecturers will gladly answer everything that worries you.

You are the future of our country.

Good luck choosing the best higher education for you!
