The NMT abroad: 50 cities, 30 countries and how to register.

Around 2.7 million Ukrainians are abroad because of the full-scale invasion. For those who want to enter a Ukrainian university, the UCEQA runs the NMT in 30 countries. In 2026 roughly 24,000 places are available abroad in 50 cities — the widest network in the history of the test (UCEQA, webinar of 4 March 2026).
The test format is completely identical to the Ukrainian one: the same tasks, the same time, computer-based testing. The only difference is the time zone. This article explains exactly where you can take the NMT, how to register and what to expect.
TL;DR: The NMT 2026 abroad runs in 50 cities across 30 countries, with around 24,000 places. The leader is Germany with about 6,000 places. Turnout abroad in 2025 was 84.98% against 91.86% in Ukraine (UCEQA, 2025). Registration goes through testportal.gov.ua and the process is the same for everyone.
Roughly 24,000 places in 50 cities across 30 countries have been allocated for the main NMT 2026 session abroad (UCEQA, webinar of 4 March 2026). For comparison: in 2025 there were 104 centres in 55 cities across 33 countries. The network remains large.
The most places are traditionally in the countries with the largest Ukrainian communities. Germany is the outright leader with about 6,000 places. Then come Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom.
Places are allocated on a first-registered, first-served basis. If the places in a particular city run out, the UCEQA may offer you a neighbouring city. So do not leave registration to the final days.
The full list of cities and countries appears at testportal.gov.ua once registration opens. Keep an eye on the updates — new locations are sometimes added.

Registering for the NMT abroad is completely identical to registering in Ukraine — through the single portal testportal.gov.ua. In 2025, 312,490 people registered for the main session (UCEQA, 2025). There is no difference in the procedure for participants abroad.
The documents are the same: passport, tax number, education document. If you live abroad and do not have your physical school certificate, check the procedure for submitting scanned copies on the UCEQA hotline.
The detailed step-by-step registration guide is set out in a separate article on registering for the NMT 2026.
Turnout for the NMT abroad in 2025 was 84.98% — noticeably lower than in Ukraine, where it reached 91.86% (UCEQA, 2025). That means every sixth person registered abroad did not turn up for the test. The reasons vary: logistical difficulties, a change of plans, not keeping track of the date.
Several factors explain the gap of almost 7 percentage points. First, logistics: getting to a test centre in another city or even another country is harder. Second, some of those who register change their admission plans and stay to study in their host country. Third, some participants do not keep an eye on their account and miss the updates about the place and time of the test.
Advice: check your personal account at testportal.gov.ua every week after registering. All the messages, location changes and invitations appear only there.
The NMT format abroad is identical to the Ukrainian one: computer-based testing, the same tasks, the same time frames — 2 blocks of 120 minutes (UCEQA, 2026). The only technical difference is that the test starts at the local time of the centre’s time zone.
In practice — only the time zone. The test starts at the local time of the country where you sit it. That means a participant in Lisbon and a participant in Kyiv solve the same tasks, but at a different astronomical time.
It is also worth planning your route to the centre in advance. In some countries the centres are housed in universities or schools you have to get to in the morning. Check the address on your invitation and work out the route the day before the test.

The additional NMT 2026 session abroad covers 22 cities in 11 countries (UCEQA, webinar of 4 March 2026). It is intended for those who could not take the main session for objective reasons — in particular, exams at a foreign educational institution.
The additional session is available to participants with a confirmed valid reason for missing the main session. The most common case is the NMT dates clashing with exams at a foreign school or college. That requires a certificate from the educational institution.
Additional registration opens on 11–16 May 2026. That is a very short window — just 6 days. Do not miss it.
The geography of the additional session is much narrower: 11 countries instead of 30. So check in advance whether your country is on the list.
Yes. Refugee status or temporary protection is not a requirement. Any Ukrainian citizen entitled to enter a Ukrainian university can register for the NMT abroad. The main thing is to have your passport, tax number and education document (UCEQA, 2026).
No. The tasks are drawn from a single bank and are completely identical for all participants, wherever they sit the test. The only difference is the time zone — the test starts at local time (UCEQA, webinar of 4 March 2026).
Check the neighbouring cities in your country or the nearest city in a neighbouring country. The list of available locations is updated at testportal.gov.ua once registration opens. In 2025 there were 104 centres in 55 cities across 33 countries (UCEQA, 2025).
Additional registration opens on 11–16 May 2026. It is available to those who missed the main session for objective reasons — for example, exams at a foreign educational institution. The corresponding certificate is required (UCEQA, 2026).
The NMT abroad is a full-fledged way of entering a Ukrainian university without returning to Ukraine. In 2026 the network covers 50 cities in 30 countries with around 24,000 places. The test format is identical and the results carry equal weight.
